Sigma has announced it will enter the arena of Cine Lenses. The market is already pretty well covered in both lower and high end, but Sigma might just prove to be a excellent middle ground.

Instead of taking the approach of Samyang, and release a new lens every so often, Sigma has made the move to announce their whole planned line-up in one go.

Their line-up will consist of a number of full-frame covering high speed primes, along with several zoom lenses. Two of three zoom lenses (the 18-35mm T2.0 and 50-100mm T2.0) will cover Super 35mm sensors. The fullframe zoom will have a 24-35mm focal range with a T2.2 aperture. The lenses will be available in EF and E mount first, with PL following later.

  • Sigma 18-35mm T2.0 (S35, 2016)
  • Sigma 50-100mm T2.0 (S35, 2016)
  • Sigma 24-35mm T2.2 (FF, 2017)
  • Sigma 20mm T1.5 (FF, 2017)
  • Sigma 24mm T1.5 (FF, 2017)
  • Sigma 35mm T1.5 (FF, 2017)
  • Sigma 50mm T1.5 (FF, 2017)
  • Sigma 85mm T1.5 (FF, 2017)

At this point there's no pricing know for the lenses, but I suspect them to be priced aggressively, a few marks below the Zeiss CP.2 range, but well above the ranges set by Samyang/Rokinon. I'm personally very curious to see what they'll do with the pricing on their S35 zoomlenses. Combined they'd offer a wonderful range at 18-100mm, slightly more than the Zeiss Lightweight Zoom LWZ.3 21-100mm lens. :-)
